PHOTO FRAME & KNOTS AND DIGGING FOR TREASURE 🌲

WE HAD A BRILLIANT TIME IN THE FOREST TODAY. THE CHILDREN LEARNT TO MAKE A PHOTO FRAME  USING STICKS AND KNOTS AND EVEN USED SECATEURS TO CUT THEIR STICKS.

SOME CHILDREN USED TROWEL TO DIG FOR TREASURE (check out the photos) AND SOME MADE IMPRESSIVE SHELTERS.

I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH THEIR PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE WHEN LEARNING THE KNOTS AND THEIR IMAGINATIVE PLAY WHEN DIGGING FOR GOLD.

⭐️WELL DONE EVERYONE ⭐️

🌲YEAR 6 FOREST SCHOOL 🌲

Year 3 have loved being out in the forest this sunny half term.
We have linked our learning to their topic of ‘Rocks, Relics & Rumbles’

The children have been exploring sand, water and rocks and looking at erosion.
They have been panning for different stones in mud and water.

They have been creating fossils using clay and a variety of differing species.

Using magnifying glasses to look at bugs and different stones.

Using stripped willow and bit sticks to build shelters and dens and have been helping to maintain the forest area.

Most importantly they have been working together cooperatively and having lots of fun.

Well done everyone. You are all amazing 🌲⭐️

YEAR 3 FOREST SCHOOL

Year 1 Forest Fire Pictures

We had an amazing time building a fire and making S’mores

FOREST SCHOOL

YEAR 1

We had a fabulous time in the forest yesterday 🌲🕷

The weather was glorious ☀️ and we all had so much fun 😀

We read The Stick Man and discussed the story. We then made our own stick men, shelter for our stick families and explored the forest for natural material.

We played Avengers Stuck in the Mud and navigated the different terrain. We learnt to carry big heavy objects safely and worked so well as a team.

We are so proud of the children today and really enjoyed the session ⭐️🌟

Year 1 Stick Man

Forest School

Year 2

We had so much fun in the forest learning all about bugs, their habitat and building homes for them to live in.  The children searched for all kinds of different insects and used a Pooter to suck up the mini beasts and observe them in pots.

The children created some beautiful bug artwork made from all natural material and then each child gave a speech to the class about what their bug was called and all about why they chose that design.

The last session was fire week and the children had so much fun toasting their marshmallows and making S’mores.

They had so much fun and we are so proud of all their hard work.

WELL DONE YEAR 2

Forest School

Year 5

WOW! Year 5 have had a fabulous 6 weeks in the forest. They have used tools to chop sticks, used twine to tie knots and then created photo frames. Their skill, patience and determination to create something amazing was admirable and we are so happy with the results.

Some children went on a leaf hunt and created some beautiful leaf art.

All the children absolutely loved building dens and worked so well with their team mates.

Pupils used the secateurs to cut willow off the walkway and then they stripped the willow back and used it to tie the sticks together and create some spectacular den designs.

They looked good enough to live in!

Pupils helped to keep our forest clean, tidy and safe.

I think it’s safe to say that their favourite week was fire week. The children loved watching the fire being built and asked lots of questions. They especially enjoyed toasting their marshmallows and making S’mores.

We were so impressed with the attitude of the year 5 children and the flair they showed in the natural environment.

Well done year 5! We thoroughly enjoyed having you in our forest.

Fantastic News!

Our school has been awarded a grant to transform part of our outdoor space into a Forest School. Work began last week transforming the land in between our dining room and car park into an exciting outdoor area where the children will take part in many activities including bush craft,  cookery,  den building  and  wildlife exploration.

Step one of the project was to create a willow arch over the path. This will continue to grow and develop as the seasons change. We look forward to watching this.

Many thanks to Aiyla's mum who came along to support us with this project.

What is Forest School ?

The concept of Forest Schools originated in Scandanavia and  was adopted in Denmark as a solution to lack of outdoor facilities. It was brought over to Britain in the 1980’s and is now widely recognised as a valued mode of learning.

Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

Forest School is a specialised learning approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland education.

Forest School Opening Celebration

Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate the official opening of our Forest School. We were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress who performed the official ceremony and would like to thank them very much for taking the time to share in our celebration.  We were also joined by Tim and Vicki from the Lancashire Wildlife Trust who were able to share with us the ethos of Forest Schools and the types of activities we will be doing in school.

We enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on our camp fire !

The staff and children are looking forward to beginning their Forest School sessions next half term.

Staff took part in a training day in September to find out about Forest Schools.
